The Knighting of Sir Fred Allen

We are very honoured by many of the assignments we are given to photograph. Yesterday was one of those days when we photographed a series of Government House Investitures. What was also fantastic was the Knighting of rugby great Sir Fred Allen by The Governor General Sir Anand Satyanand.. I have been photographing Sir Fred for most of my career, and have enjoyed that experience each and every time. Sir Fred is one of those New Zealanders who has an aura and charisma, which makes him unique. As an All Black Player, Coach, and Manager he has few in rugby who can match his contribution, and he is the only All Black Coach to go undefeated. Sir Fred is more than a great rugby personality, as he has helped mentor many young Kiwi’s, and is a superb role model who has assisted many in gaining life skills, and progressing on into many varied and different areas.
Yesterday was special, as when you see a person as Sir Fred, who you know has that X Factor, and is wise, has warmth and humour, and who has contributed to our country in so many ways, you realise that our New Zealand Honours are a great thing. The recognition, pride, and joy that recipients gain is something quite unique, and as photographers we feel very priviledged to be recording such occasions.
